What are the signs/symptoms of prostate cancer?

My husband recently told me for the past year he’s been having trouble peeing – It wouldn’t start when he felt he had to go and once it did begin, it hurt. I asked him hurt how? and he said kind of like peeing razor blades. His dad was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2006, and the doctor instructed my husband to get checked when he turned 30 because this could be hereditary. Also, he’s currently experiencing a lot of pain in his scrotal area – The right side was swollen last night when he got home from work, and he said he felt like he had pulled a groin muscle (was almost limping) – Is it possible it could be cancer? Or are we over paranoid?

NO YOU ARE NOT PARANOID – Has he been to a doctor for a psa and rectal exam. I would think he should. I have had prostate problems since I was 19 and believe me it is not fun. Mainly with pain in his scrotum – he should be examined. If it turns out just prostatitus I can tell you a remedy after some antibiotics that you both can work on or if he has to do like me and take care of it himself and that is to have sex on a regular basis. Same days every week – the medical reason being that the prostate generates fluid to be passed when ejaculation occurs. It builds this fluid supply on a routine basis. If this is not used there is an overabundance so this builds pressure in the prostate causeing swelling. The urethra passes thru the prostate and the flow of urine is affected causeing low flow, not emptying creating the urge to go more. I took control of mine by masturbating the same two days every week (Tuesday & Friday) cause my wife didn’t want sex. Are you gonna tell him this? I hope so cause that hurts like heck. Good luck.

How long does it take for prostate cancer to go from stage 2 to stage 3?

Sometimes it never does. Typically the older you are (60′s, 70′s), the less aggressive Prostate cancer is. For those who advance, the time frame between stages varies soooo much. It depends on if the patient is faithful with all follow ups, post diagnosis. Any unusual symptoms should always be reported to your oncologist, no matter how slight the symptom may be. Always try to stay a step ahead and be proactive in your care. Bloodwork, scans, etc should never be missed.

Radiation treatment for prostate cancer?

I received radiation for 2 months in 2003.Since that time my PSA COUNT is an average of 0.6.
I this within normal limits and is not supposed to drop lower than that after treatment?

I’m not sure what your question is, but your PSA is great and “Fer” is no doctor.

what are the early symptoms of prostate cancer?

There are no early reliable symptoms of prostate cancer. If present, they may mimic an enlarged prostate (aka BPH) or prostatitis.

Remember the definition of symptoms is something the patient complains about, and a sign is something the observer (physician) and identify (prostate nodule or elevated PSA).

Fish oils help prevent prostate cancer
BETHESDA, MARYLAND. Alpha-linolenic acid (ALA) is a major component of flax seed oil and has been associated with significant cardiovascular benefits. Some studies, however, have shown that a high intake of ALA is associated with an increased risk of prostate cancer. A prestigious team of researchers from the National Cancer Institute, the Harvard Medical School, the Harvard School of Public Health, and the Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm has just released the results of a study aimed at settling the controversy as to whether or not ALA is detrimental when it comes to prostate cancer. The researchers also determined the effect of other fatty acids, including fish oils, on prostate cancer risk.

The evidence is now indeed overwhelming that selenium helps protect against prostate cancer. While this study concluded that the protection mainly involves slowing down tumor progression, other studies have shown that selenium also helps prevent initiation of the cancer. Thus daily supplementation with 200 micrograms of selenium should be an integral part of all supplementation programs for men.

Each year some 40,000 American men die of prostate cancer because the disease is not detected early enough. In its most treatable stages, prostate cancer usually has no symptoms, which means regular screening is absolutely crucial. Below, Doctor Daniel Shasha, an Assistant Professor of Radiation Oncology at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and Doctor Robert Salant, an Associate Professor of Urology at the NYU School of Medicine, offer some information about the importance of prostate cancer screening and the common fears that surround it. This information could truly save your life.

is it true that stop masturbating will be harmful to testicles and cause prostate cancer?

No. The only study that’s even close to this shows that men who masturbate or have sex at least 5 times a week have been shown to reduce their chances of prostate cancer by up to 30%. Stopping masturbating won’t cause it, but it doesn’t help either.

My girlfriend’s father has just been diagnosed with prostate cancer. What should I do to help her?

We’ve been dating for little more than three years, and I’m on a somewhat familiar basis with her family. The doctors don’t know in what stage the cancer is and he’ll be going through testing throughout the month. She’s pretty broken up about it, but I’m not particularly sure how to go about comforting her.

Greetings!

I have recently been diagnosed with Prostate cancer. The process of testing helped to eliminate guessing. My consultation after the test to discuss options, took away much of the apprehensive thoughts. It seemed that once the news was out, many of my friends had stories and experiences. Some of their comments were helpful but some would have been better left unsaid.

I think you can best encourage your loved one by letting her know that you are there for her if she need to cry or talk. Just be her friend. You do not need to become an expert on the cancer. Encourage her to love on her dad with words of encouragement and love. A hug and a kiss on the cheek will do wonders.

Dad needs the chance to become his own expert on the subject and the confidence that his family will support the decisions he makes about a course of treatment.

This is how I feel. Sincerely, Chas G-a future cancer survivor

what are the causes and symptoms of prostate cancer?

Prostate cancer is related to heredity, diet, and ethnicity. And sometimes it just happens without any obvious risk factors.

Most commonly, it’s discovered as part of a routine physical exam. In most cases, diagnosis precedes the appearance of any clinical symptoms. Advanced cases of prostate cancer may be accomanied by disruption of urinary or sexual functions. Once the cancer metastasizes, it tends to lodge in bone, especially in the spine and pelvic areas. In the final stages, the cancer weakens bones, causing spontaneous fractures progressing to painful failure of the skeletal system.
