Dr. Samadi tells men that they should not only know their PSA test score but also keep track of the changes in that number from year to year, otherwise known as velocity. With a noticeable change, patients should promptly see their urologist and get a biopsy done. If and when the diagnosis is cancer, he advises that the best treatment is robotic surgery. With robotic surgery, the surgeon has a better range of motion and visibility. Robotic surgery cures patients, affords faster recovery, continence and a return to a healthy sex life. Robotic surgery generally has a good track record of recovery, except in rare cases where a patient is diabetic, morbidly obese or on steroids. Radiation may not have as long a recovery and may also have serious side effects such as rectal bleeding.
