Does anyone know anything I can do for Colon Cancer Fundraising?

My dad was diagnosed a couple of months ago with Stage 4 colon cancer. I have been reading everything I can on it, but one of the things this oh-so-preventable-cancer is missing is the type of fundraising I only seem to find for breast cancer. I want to do everything I can to do my part to raise awareness and raise money if I can. Please let me know if you know how to do so.
Anything local to the PA, NJ, DE, MD aread would be even better!

Your desire to help with this important health issue is wonderful. You may want to start by contacting your local chapter of the American Cancer Society (ACS). You should find them in the phone book.

The ACS may have fund-raising programs you can assist with. You may also be able to work with them to start a special program specifically for colon cancer if they do not already have one.

There are plenty of ways to raise funds for cancer awareness. Here are a few ideas:

1) a walk for colon cancer (walkers get friends and family to ‘sponsor’ their walk with a donation for each mile the person walks)
2) a raffle/drawing (donated artwork, cruise or vacation tickets, a 50/50 drawing, etc.)
3) sell tee-shirts, mugs, hats, etc. with a logo about supporting colon cancer awareness
4) a community auction – get local people and businesses to donate items to the auction
5) sell ribbons, pins, etc. to show support for colon cancer awareness.

Best wishes and good luck.

Early Stage Prostate Cancer Treatment hard on my mental wish I was dead?

Amplified ED problems make life not worth living

Hi, i think the first reply to your question is cruel, as cancer is frightening for everyone regardless of the stage of diagnosis.

The fact that the stage is early hopefully means the treatment wont be too invasive. Give yourself time and do the things in life you would usually enjoy. depression and anxiety can become habitual so try and force yourself to think positively. Not easy i know but making myself think positive thoughts has helped me to overcome depression.

Hope you find the support and help you need.

I just found out my friend may have testicular cancer?

My friend who is only 26 just found out that he may have testicular cancer. I can see he is very sad about this and goes in for testing today. I want to get him something to cheer him up, just something small. Does anyone have any ideas?

So sorry to hear bad news, but this is a very curable cancer. I’d help him by doing some research for him, because the last thing he wants to do is sit at a computer and read about it.

Besides a gift, find articles of guys who’ve been thru this and done well, what helped them, and find a local support group for him. Present this is clear easy to read info for him with phone numbers.
Maybe have someone call him who’s been thru it.

I’ve seen many guys do fine and are completely cured, but they must follow thru with their treatment.

You could also give him IOU’s, like a funny card or booklet of IOU’s you make, for foot massages, to run his errands, or cook for him, or something when he’s not feeling well. (He’ll probably undergo chemo and/or radiation at some point.)

It’s essential to have friends and support, so don’t let him isolate himself and keep trying to bring up his spirits. Don’t pity him, make him laugh.

Good luck to you both.

Are there any cancer charities that are very generous to colon cancer support and research?

I would like to give out donations as favors at my wedidng, and since my father died of colon cancer I would like to find a charity that supports this cause.

There are many breast cancer charities, but not many for other specialties. Please provide sourcing if you can so I can verify that information is correct!

What are some of the signs you have colon cancer?

What are some of the signs when you first get colon cancer and if you wait a couple years and find out you have colon cancer what are the different signs?

Colon cancer is a silent disease. I was diagnosed with advanced stage IV colon cancer at the age of 40 in Jan 2006. My only long term symptom was constipation (20 + years) . A couple of months prior to diagnosis I had bloating and cramping. My GP, and GI specialist were not concerned about cc, only motility issues. Well, the colonoscopy showed different.

I have a 60 year old with Stage IV Prostate Cancer diagnosed 4 years ago. What can I expect from now?

He is on 3 monthly hormone injections, MST and Oramorph for the pain, he has had Chemo and Radio Therapy and at last hospital appt, his consultant suggested maybe further Chemo. He does try to help out, however gets tired, breathless and sweaty very easily and he is very tearful. His PSA has risen to 65. What is his prognosis from here?
Thank you very much for your help.

Unfortunately there is only one long term prognosis with out treatment. Your best bet is a clinical trial. You might be able to find one you’d be suited for here.

Hello, I like to find the best prostate cancer institution in Australia.?

Hello,

I like to find the best prostate cancer institution in Australia or US ?
My uncle in Japan diagnosed prostate cancer (stage 4), but Japanese medical in cancer is behind and this cancer is not common in Japan. Please help if anyone know best hospital in Australia or US? I don’t want let him die!!

The best Prostate cancer centre currently in Australia is the Northern Sydney Cancer Centre at Royal North Shore Hospital in the north of Sydney on Australia’s east coast.

They specialise in using Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) to treat prostate cancer. The centre is also equipped with on-board imaging (OBI) which they use to to position the patient in exactly the precise position every day using tiny fiducial markers (seeds) implanted in the patient’s prostate – one of the only centre’s in Australia to do so.

While some people may argue the "proton" treatment in the US is the best, IMRT is an equally accepted practice and produces little to side effects for prostate patients in patients at the Northern Sydney Cancer Centre.

Their new website is currently under construction so it may be difficult to get all information from them but if you search the terms prostate cancer, IMRT, OBI, fiducial markers you should be able to get some pretty good information.

If you have any more questions let me know,
Hope that helps.
