My mother had colon cancer, and survived it for 5 years before passing on. She was adopted, so I know nothing about her parents and so forth.

I was wondering what the chances were of me or my sister inheriting it from my mother.

Also, do you know if I have to be a certain age to get a colonoscopy? Thanks.

It would depend on the type of cancer that your mom had. I had what is called famiel poyposis. It turned into active malignant cancer which it does 100% of the time. It is extremely hereditary and can even skip a generation. The good news is that it can now be detected through genetic tests. I have n ow had 18 surgeries since 1985, the last one being 7 weeks ago.

All I can tell you is to get tested for it regularly. I am still kicking around because we caught mine before it came through the colon wall. Good luck and I hope all goes well.

Would someone please tell me that prostatitis pain in the perineum is the pain that come and go while the prostate cancer pain is a persistent pain. Thank you
Actually, it is a little bit discomfort, not a pain.

It is more likely a Benign Prostate Hypoplagia that caused any swelling. Especially if you’re older than 35, get your doctor to run a BPH screen in order to rule out cancer. The earlier such cancer is detected, the easier to treat it effectively. Otherwise, if you’re not having urinary trouble, there is probably no need to take Avodart or Flomax.

* Dull pain in your lower pelvic area
* Urgency of urination
* Difficulty starting urination
* Pain during urination
* Weak urine flow and dribbling
* Intermittent urine flow
* A sensation that your bladder doesn’t empty
* Frequent urination at night
* Blood in your urine
* Painful ejaculation
* General pain in your lower back, hips or upper thighs

None of the above. They may be symptoms of cancer once it spreads from the prostate to other areas. I had no symptoms and prostate cancer was detected as a result of annual physical and blood check for cholesterol. My PSA went from 1.5 to 4.5 in 12 months. Doctor ordered biopsies and cancer was detected in 1 of 12 areas. The Gleason score was 4+4=8 (aggressive tumor) I had the prostate removed a month later. They found cancer in the sections the biopsies missed.
I was 59 when it was removed. With no symptoms.
