Can anyone tell me what the prognosis is for someone who has stage II colon cancer?

I’m sorry that I can’t phrase that a little bit less harsh, but I have recently found out someone that I know has stage II colon cancer. He has had surgery and is in round 2 of a six month chemo treatment. Will my friend survive? For how long?

Most cancers are measured in survival 5-year survival rates. This is the percentage of people alive 5 years after being diagnosed with the same kind and stage of cancer. Stage 2A colon cancers have a 5-year survival rate of 80% and 2B has a 75% survival rate. Long term survival depends on how well they respond to treatment. If is not uncommon for some cancers such as breast cancer or melanoma to recur 10-15 years later. This is not the case with colon cancers when they recur it is usually within 2-4 years.

How long can some one live with colon cancer ?

Location – Oregon, Salem

Having getting told you have cancer almost your birthday is so sad to me makes me cry why does this have to happen
My girlfriend
You did answer my question but being rude I want more opinions about this

well. I have Lost 3 family members due to cancer and had 1 survive. the three that died had very very bad cancers and the 1 that survived had colon cancer.. This is the cancer that is one of the easier ones to treat.. It is Not in any way a death sentence. You need to support her and go about your life with her as if she didn’t have it… More likely than none she will be Just fine.

NHS spend on testicular and prostate Cancer compared to Breast and cervical ?

Me and the wife were having a discussing about the relative nhs investment and mortality rates of male and female cancers (as she is a school nurse assistant). I maintain that male cancers (testicular / prostate) are not taken as seriously as female cancers (breast and cervical) and have less investment in them. Does anyone know if there is a disparity between the four cancers and why this is the case?

Please don’t cloud the issue by telling me that men suffer with breast cancer, I know!

I think some of it is how much coverage they get. Breast cancer has a huge promotional effort behind it and is a big money make so they spend lots of money on research.

Difference between advanced testicular cancer and another advance cancer such as advanced lung cancer?

Why is it that one cancer (testicular cancer) has a good response to treatment even when it is in an advanced stage and then advanced lung cancer has a very poor response to treatment when it is in an advanced stage?

brandon – You’re on your way to becoming a cancer specialist. In addition to the two cancers you mentioned, there are about 200 others that may be found in humans. There is no one cancer of the testis, but the main four are types of cancer that develop in the testes are seminoma, teratoma, embryonal carcinoma, and choriocarcinoma. They vary greatly in their malignant behavior from very curable to deadly and very different in their response to treatment. . There are several other cancers of the testis.
Lung cancers are divided into two main groups = non small-cell and small-cell types. Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC)
NSCLC accounts for about 80% of lung cancers. There are different types of NSCLC, including:
Squamous cell carcinoma (also called epidermoid carcinoma). This is the most common type of NSCLC. It forms in the lining of the bronchial tubes and is the most common type of lung cancer in men.
Adenocarcinoma. This cancer is found in the glands of the lungs that produce mucus. This is the most common type of lung cancer in women and also among people who have not smoked.
Bronchioalveolar carcinoma. This is a rare subset of adenocarcinoma. It forms near the lungs’ air sacs. Recent clinical research has shown that this type of cancer responds more effectively to the newer targeted therapies.
Large-cell undifferentiated carcinoma. This cancer forms near the surface, or outer edges, of the lungs. It can grow rapidly.
Small cell lung cancer (SCLC)
SCLC accounts for about 20% of all lung cancers. Although the cells are small, they multiply quickly and form large tumors that can spread throughout the body. Smoking is almost always the cause of SCLC.
Responses to treatment and aggressiveness vary.
There is no simple and short answer to your original question.

Scientists have found the same HPV that causes cervical cancers in enlarged prostates which can lead to cancer

does this (prostate cancer) change mens’ attitudes towards a disease they thought was just a woman’s nightmare? Notice how prevalent prostate cancer is, and notice how prevalent HPV is in men?

Hmmm….I guess it should.

How does obesity cause prostate cancer.?

so, i heard obesity could cause prostate cancer. but how so?
please help me.
thank you.
=)

Yes that is correct. Obesity is a major risk factor for prostate cancer. This is because prostate cancer is caused partly by high levels of hormones like testosterone, leptin and insulin. Among obese people, it is found that they have unusually high concentration of leptin and insulin in their bodies.

Obesity is also a major risk factor for breast cancer, endometrial cancer, colon cancer, esophageal and kidney cancers. For more information, please check out http://www.your-cancer-prevention-guide.com/cancer-and-obesity.html

Can using a laptop on your lap cause testicular cancer?

I use a laptop for around 4 hours a day (breaks every half an hour or so)
I regularly put it on my lap. I have been reading up on this and apparently some sources say that it can give you testicular cancer or other cancers. Please can someone tell me if this true, and the chances of this happening?

Thanks in advance.

It’s possible. I guess that’s why they called laptops, notebooks now.

Why do people use the illogical argument for getting a pet neutered is that it will prevent testicular cancer?

This argument makes no sense! I am sure that if I got neutered that I wouldn’t get testicular cancer either.

I think that if someone uses this as an argument to have a dog neutered that they should have their brain removed to avoid brain cancer.

I’ve never heard this proposed as a reason for neutering dogs. I suppose technically it is true, but I am not aware that dogs tend to be especially susceptible to testicular cancer more so than other kinds of cancers, or even to cancers in general. As such, it is a very weak argument.

EDIT: Nick:

I did not say anything false. I did not say dogs never got testicular cancer. I said that I was not aware that dogs were especially susceptible to testicular cancer as compared to other kinds of cancers, or that dogs were especially susceptible to cancers in general as compared to other canine diseases.

While I am sorry that you have lost your dog to this illness, in the future I would advise you to carefully read other people’s words before you start flaming them.
