Prostate cancer is usually adenocarcinoma. Symptoms are rare until urethral obstruction occurs. Diagnosis is suggested by digital rectal examination or prostate-specific antigen measurement and confirmed by biopsy. Prognosis for most patients with prostate cancer, especially when it is localized or regional, is very good; more men die with prostate cancer than of it. Treatment is with prostatectomy, radiation therapy, or, for some elderly patients, watchful waiting.

It is beyond unlikely that you have prostate cancer. It’s extremely rare in men under 50, and so rare in young men that there are no statistics available for the disease incidence in men under 35.

Over 80% of men diagnosed with prostate cancer are over 65 and half of all cases occur in men over 75.

I regularly put it on my lap. I have been reading up on this and apparently some sources say that it can give you Testicular Cancer or other cancers. Please can someone tell me if this true, and the chances of this happening?

This just can’t be right… I made him get checked out today and now we are just waiting for a specialist to to look at his colon next week.

Colon Cancer can occur at any age, but the symptoms are far more commonly displayed by lesser illnesses. Colonic cancers are more prevalent in older patients, but there has been an increase in the number of younger patients who follow a western style diet high in processed foods.

"Common illnesses are common" is one of the first things quoted to medical students, and there are many common ailments which singly or in combination can cause all of the symptoms of colonic cancer. Accurate diagnosis involves taking tissue samples for microscopic examination and the process in which this is done can be a bit uncomfortable but is not painful.

The internet and self-diagnosis can in many ways be more worrying than the illness itself. Stop assuming it’s cancer and let the expert make a diagnosis. Even if your worst fears are realised, then early detection and modern treatment ensure a high survival rate; treatments have dramatically improved even in the three years that I’ve been interested in oncology.

Prostate cancer is a disease in which cancer develops in the prostate, a gland in the male reproductive system. Cancer occurs when cells of the prostate mutate and begin to multiply out of control. These cells may spread (metastasize) from the prostate to other parts of the body, especially the bones and lymph nodes. Prostate cancer may cause pain, difficulty in urinating, erectile dysfunction and other symptoms.

Symptoms

Early prostate cancer usually causes no symptoms. Often it is diagnosed during the workup for an elevated PSA noticed during a routine checkup. Sometimes, however, prostate cancer does cause symptoms, often similar to those of diseases such as benign prostatic hypertrophy. These include frequent urination, increased urination at night, difficulty starting and maintaining a steady stream of urine, blood in the urine, and painful urination. Prostate cancer may also cause problems with sexual function, such as difficulty achieving erection or painful ejaculation.

Advanced prostate cancer may cause additional symptoms as the disease spreads to other parts of the body. The most common symptom is bone pain, often in the vertebrae (bones of the spine), pelvis or ribs, from cancer which has spread to these bones. Prostate cancer in the spine can also compress the spinal cord, causing leg weakness and urinary and fecal incontinence.
