well, I think that I my have hit my left testicle, the next day it seemed to have swollen. that night I notice a lump on the top of it. I have made a appointment with a doctor.

how long does it take to spread?

is it common for black men to develope it?
what else could it be besides cancer?

Actually no it is not common for black men to have testicular cancer, I believe it’s more common in Caucasian and Latino men 15-35 years old but that still does not rule you out. If the growth is on top of the testicle and not within it’s most likely a cyst in which doctors will either do nothing or will remove it depending on how bad it’s bothering you.

What the doctor will typically do is perform an ultrasound to better observe the growth and determine if it is within the testicle or not. If it is within then the doctor will most likely remove the testicle ASAP. After the pathology and blood tests they will then determine whether cancer cells were released into your lymph nodes. Depending on the amount and stage of the cancer (if any) the doctor will schedule chemo or radiation therapy. Don’t worry though it sounds worse than it is, you have about a 95% chance of survival. The ability of you having kids in the future however, depends on how much treatment from radiation or chemo you will need.

I has severe pain in my scrotum about a week ago… since then its been aching, maybe a jab of pain here and there once in a blue. Plus my left testical is descended than the other. My left testical area is also loose and saggy as it usually would be, but my right area looks a little like when Im aroused. And a few weeks ago I had severe pain in my chest and still have pressure from time to time, but I think thats because I ate food with ALOT of butter. If it is testical cancer how long do I have. Should I drop everything and go right now. Or wait till my next day off or next week then go? What should I do… I dont know how fast cancer spreads.

Testicular cancer is one of the fastest spreading cancers. If you do have testicular cancer then you will lose the affected testicle, there is no way around it. The procedure in called an orchiectomy and is rather basic, they make an incision a few inches below your navel and pull the testicle out through the incision. Total recovery time is typically a month. If you let it go untreated it could spread to your lymph nodes and lungs rather quickly, so obviously it would be in your best interest to see a doctor as soon as possible.

that does not mean that you definitely have cancer, but it should raise suspicion, any time you see an abnormalty or abnormal change you should be concerned. There are several different things it could be. You just got to go to the dr, get some tests/scans and get it diagnosed.

We were diagnosed with cancer just over two years ago and finished chemotherapy treamtent about two years ago. We are currently undergoing IVF as we would like to have children. We would love to have children naturally in the future and were wondering if you have been through this and how long it took for your sperm count to come back to have children naturally

I am sorry that you have gone through this. A close friend of ours had testicular cancer and had one testicle removed. He was supposed to have a reduced chance afterward. Their first child was conceived maybe 3 years later, and their second child only took a month. Good luck! BTW, our friend is 100% recovered for over 5 years and really healthy now.

My husband is 33 and I am 24. He has been told he has testicular cancer. He is nearly done with his second chemotherapy cycle he has two more to go. We have only been married for seven months. He has terrible mood swings. There are times he is slow talking (mubling) and hateful. Before, he became sick he was the sweetest and most kindest person. I know that it is the chemo and his medication causing his bad moods.

I want to be more patient and understanding with him. My nerves are not in the best shape. I suffer from depression and take prozac. I am scared of loosing him to the cancer.I lost my grandfather to cancer when I was thirteen. I still have not gotton over my grandfather’s death.

My whole family is praying for him and have at least seven churches in seven states praying for him.

Any ideas on how I can be more patient with my husband?

When someone is suffering from the side effects of chemotherapy, it can not only give them physical symptoms but emotional issues as well. Combine his chemo related and cancer related horror to the fear that he is experiencing as a man that he may fear he is losing his masculinity and ability to love you completely, it explains the mood swings.

Be supportive but don’t wallow! That doesn’t help either one of you!

Join a support group.

Give yourself permission to get out and do something at least one day a week for YOU. It will help you be a better wife to him and a better caregiver during this painful time in your marriage.

I urge you to find some counseling where you can not only work through this current pain, but also to help you deal with
the loss of your grandfather.

Contrary to what society would have us believe, there is NO timetable on grief and we all experience it in different ways.

Make sure to take your medication regularly. Exercise and eat right. Nothing hurts a caregiver more than not taking care of themselves. Get sufficient rest.

If he has problems sleeping and needs someone to sit up with him, consider asking some church friends to come and sit up with him so that you can get enough rest to refill your reservoir of strength and patience.

Be willing to admit that you too are entitled to a few bad days of your own! This isn’t just his battle – the two of you are going through it.

Good luck!

its for a health project… ok so by feel….. my research saids varicocele feels like worms? o_0 but i never found out how you yourself would tell the difference between testicular cancer and varicocele

Only an ultrasound or biopsy can differentiate a variocele from cancer. But it’s true that cancer tumours tend to feel less mobile and firmer than the engorged veins of a variocele. IN a nutshell, a variocele is basically a spermatic vein varicosity (like a hemorrhoid is a varicose rectal vein). Veins tend to feel ‘squiggly’ and are compressable (they squish down to a degree). Tumours tends to feel more firm, nodular, and are more fixed in the testicle, and they are usually painless, unlike the variocele, but this is not always the case.
